MAGICAL WILDLIFE

Kenya

Wildlife Safaris

Kenya is one of Africa’s most popular destinations for wildlife safaris. The country has beautiful national parks and reserves where travellers can see elephants, lions, leopards, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras and many other animals living in the wild.

The Masai Mara National Reserve is one of the best-known safari destinations in Kenya. It offers excellent wildlife viewing throughout the year and is especially famous for its large numbers of predators and open savannah landscapes.

Other popular destinations include Amboseli National Park, Tsavo East and Tsavo West National Parks, Lake Nakuru National Park and Samburu National Reserve. Each destination offers a different landscape and wildlife experience. A Kenya wildlife safari can include morning and afternoon game drives, guided nature experiences and stays in safari lodges or tented camps surrounded by nature.

The Great Wildebeest Migration

The Great Wildebeest Migration is one of the biggest wildlife attractions in Kenya. Every year, huge herds of wildebeest, zebras and gazelles move between Tanzania’s Serengeti and Kenya’s Masai Mara in search of fresh grass and water.

One of the most exciting parts of the migration is the river crossing, when the herds attempt to cross the Mara River. Along the way, they face strong currents and predators such as crocodiles and lions. The timing of the migration depends on rainfall and the movement of the herds, but the Masai Mara is generally an excellent place to experience the migration during the middle and later months of the year.

Big Five Safaris

Kenya is an excellent destination for travellers hoping to see the Big Five — lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino. Several parks and reserves provide opportunities to see these famous African animals during game drives.

The Masai Mara is particularly known for lions, leopards and buffaloes, while Amboseli is famous for its large elephant herds. Lake Nakuru and other protected areas also provide opportunities to see rhinos. Experienced safari guides help visitors find wildlife while explaining animal behaviour, conservation and the different habitats found across Kenya.

Amboseli Elephant Safaris

Amboseli National Park is famous for its large herds of African elephants and beautiful views of Mount Kilimanjaro. The open landscape makes it easy to watch elephants and other wildlife during game drives.

Visitors may also see lions, cheetahs, giraffes, zebras, buffaloes and many species of birds. On clear days, the snow-covered peak of Mount Kilimanjaro creates a beautiful background for wildlife viewing and photography. Amboseli is a great choice for travellers looking for wildlife, scenery and photography during a Kenya safari.

Kenya Beach Safaris

A Kenya safari can easily be combined with a relaxing holiday along the Indian Ocean coast. After several days of wildlife viewing, travellers can enjoy white sandy beaches, warm ocean waters and comfortable beach resorts.

Popular coastal destinations include Diani Beach, Watamu and Malindi. Visitors can relax by the ocean or enjoy activities such as snorkelling, diving, boat trips and marine wildlife experiences. Combining a wildlife safari with a beach holiday is a great way to experience both Kenya’s natural beauty and its tropical coastline.
