WILD JUNGLE TRAILS

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

One of Uganda's most rewarding wildlife experiences, offering travellers the rare opportunity to meet endangered mountain gorillas in their natural forest home.

Gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is one of Uganda’s most rewarding wildlife experiences. Hidden within the thick tropical rainforest of southwestern Uganda, Bwindi is home to mountain gorillas and offers visitors the rare opportunity to meet these remarkable primates in their natural habitat.

The experience begins with an early morning briefing at the park headquarters, where trekkers are introduced to the gorilla trekking guidelines and assigned a habituated gorilla family. Accompanied by experienced park rangers and trackers, you then enter the forest and follow trails through dense vegetation, valleys and forested hills in search of the gorillas.

The trek may take anything from a few hours to much of the day, depending on the location and movement of the gorilla family. Along the way, the forest itself becomes part of the experience, with beautiful scenery, birdlife, butterflies, primates and an impressive variety of plants.

Once the gorillas are located, visitors spend one hour observing them at close range. This is the most special part of the trek. You may watch a powerful silverback keeping watch over his family, mothers caring for their young, juveniles playing or gorillas quietly feeding among the vegetation.

Bwindi offers several trekking areas, including Buhoma, Ruhija, Rushaga and Nkuringo, making it possible to include gorilla trekking in different Uganda safari itineraries.

Beyond gorilla trekking, Bwindi is a destination rich in nature, culture and beautiful scenery. Visitors can combine their trek with forest walks, bird watching and community experiences, or continue to other Uganda safari destinations for wildlife viewing.
