2 Days Nyiragongo Volcano Hiking Safari Congo is a hiking or Mountain Climbing safari in Congo on the famous Mount Nyiragongo. Mount Nyiragongo is an active strato volcano rising to an altitude of 3,470 m above sea level found within the Virunga ranges in Virunga National Park.
A hike to the summit of Mount Nyiragongo is a Congo tour activity with great views of the volcano. The main crater on the volcano is about two kilometers wide and usually contains a lava lake. Presently there two distinct cooled lava benches. Nyiragongo Lava Lake has in recent history been known as the most voluminous with lava lake elevation recorded at about 3,250m above sea level.
This 2 days hiking trip on Nyiragongo is a hike and decent but most suitable for tourists already in Congo and can reach the hike start point early.
Day 1: Hike to Mount Nyiragongo and spend a night at the summit.
Day 2: Descend from Mount Nyiragongo
Early morning, your guide makes a transfer to Kibati Ranger Post for a hike to Mount Nyiragongo. On arrival to Kibati, climbers will receive a briefing and have the opportunity to hire porters. Hiring porters takes an extra cost and therefore you need to carry some cash for this. The ascent starts by 10:00am with many hikers reaching the summit by 5:00pm local time. The hike to the Nyirangongo summit lasts about 6 hours depending on the hikers’ ability.

The descent from the Nyiragongo summit starts by 6:00am after a night or rewarding views of the reddish lava lake. The descent is about 4 hours arriving at the Kibati Ranger Post where you arrive for a departure drive to Goma with a drop off at the Grande Barriere.
