Tanzania

Tanzania is one of Africa’s leading safari destinations, with large national parks, beautiful landscapes and excellent wildlife viewing. Visitors can see lions, elephants, leopards, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras, cheetahs and many other animals in their natural habitats.

The Serengeti National Park is Tanzania’s most famous safari destination. Its wide open plains support large numbers of wildlife and offer excellent game viewing throughout the year.

Other popular safari destinations include Ngorongoro Crater, Tarangire National Park, Lake Manyara National Park, Nyerere National Park and Ruaha National Park. Each area offers its own scenery, wildlife and safari experience.

The Great Wildebeest Migration

The Great Wildebeest Migration is one of Tanzania’s most famous wildlife experiences. Every year, huge herds of wildebeest, zebras and gazelles move across the Serengeti ecosystem in search of fresh grass and water.

The migration takes place throughout the year, with different areas of the Serengeti offering different experiences. During the calving season, thousands of wildebeest are born on the southern plains. Later in the year, the herds move north and may cross rivers as they continue towards Kenya’s Masai Mara.

Because the movement of the animals depends on rainfall and grazing conditions, the exact location of the herds can change from year to year.

Ngorongoro Crater Safari

The Ngorongoro Crater is one of Tanzania’s most impressive wildlife destinations. The large volcanic crater is home to many animals, making it possible to see a wide variety of wildlife within a relatively small area.

During a game drive on the crater floor, visitors may see lions, elephants, buffaloes, zebras, wildebeest, hippos and different species of antelope. The crater is also one of the places in Tanzania where travellers may have a chance to see the endangered black rhino.

Big Five Safaris

Tanzania is a great destination for travellers hoping to see the Big Five — lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino.

The Serengeti and Ngorongoro Conservation Area are among the best-known places for Big Five safaris. Tarangire is particularly famous for its large elephant populations, while the Serengeti provides excellent opportunities to see lions and other predators.

Experienced safari guides help visitors search for wildlife while sharing information about the animals, landscapes and conservation efforts.

Zanzibar Beach Holidays

A Tanzania safari can easily be combined with a relaxing beach holiday in Zanzibar. After exploring the national parks, travellers can enjoy white sandy beaches, warm Indian Ocean waters and the island’s rich culture.

Popular beach areas include Nungwi, Kendwa, Paje and Jambiani. Visitors can relax on the beach or enjoy activities such as snorkelling, diving, sailing and boat trips. Travellers can also visit historic Stone Town, explore spice farms and learn more about Zanzibar’s history and culture.

Combining a wildlife safari with Zanzibar is a great way to experience both Tanzania’s wildlife and beautiful tropical coastline.
